Tobacco treatment enhances outcomes and recovery from non-tobacco substance use disorders and long-term abstinence from the non-tobacco drug of choice is improved when individuals quit smoking. This session will review how to identify patients who use tobacco products and implement best practices for implementing medications for tobacco treatment in publicly funded substance use treatment settings. It will also review how tobacco-free campus policies improve clinical outcomes and improve the health of everyone who accesses the treatment campus. Providing an interactive forum to discuss and cover these topics will help participants to enhance their skillset to help their patients quit smoking more effectively. The goal of the session is to prepare participants to close the gaps, which are likely different for each participant through confidence building activities.
