This presentation will explore the multifaceted impact of social media on youth, focusing on mental health and the potential development of substance use disorders. Dr. Emily Brunner, MD, DFASAM, and Dr. Sara Polley, MD, FAPA, FASAM, will provide an in-depth analysis of current research on social media use among young people, examining its effects on brain development, behavior, and psychological functioning. The session will address the criteria for social media use disorder, discuss prevention strategies, and propose treatment options.
