Gary Schoener is a Clinical Psychologist, licensed as an LP since 1974, who currently divides his time between private forensic practice and his role as Director, Inst. for Consultation & Training, Walk-In Counseling Center. Gary served as Executive Director of the WICC for 37 years. 

Gary consults and testifies in legal cases involving professional practice in substance abuse, professional counseling, psychology and other health care fields. He evaluates impaired practitioners, provides remedial boundaries training, and has been training in ethics and boundaries internationally for a number of decades. He has a number of publications – two books and many book chapters and articles – related to professional ethics & boundaries. A full list is available upon request. 

Gary served on the Board of the original Chemical Dependency Counselor training program at the U. of Minnesota and was on its teaching faculty for 23 years. He taught Ethics & Boundaries at the Recovery Academy from 2014 to 2019 and has taught individual classes on this topic in a number of training programs locally. 

Gary serves as Ethics Co-Chair of the Minnesota Counseling Association and has been coordination of the monthly Ethics Seminars which MnCA has sponsored for more than two years. Gary has been a long-time member of MARRCH (as well as its predecessor the Minn. Chemical Dependency Assn.) and was the first recipient of the MARRCH Bernie Bellings Award in Ethics. He has served as a local, state, and federal consultant on drug abuse issues. He is currently a member of the MARRCH Ethics Committee.
